Twitter Trends & News 5 Nov 2009
#happybirthdayKevin -the Jonas Brothers’ Kevin has a birthday today. He, obviously, has a large fan base on Twitter, like many pop culture icons. Other people have birthdays today too, but apparently in the Twitter “in-crowd” so we’ll give them some play here: Happy Birthday to Bryan Adams, Peter Noone, Art Garfunkel, Roy Rogers and Judy Reyes!!!
- keep the wave going – so I took the screen shot of twitter trends about an hour ago. This trend is still number the number two trend, but now it’s being typed like this “KEEP THE WAVE GOing”. This is the coolest viral trend I’ve ever seen. Not only are people passing on the coolest looking character image, but they are actually updating the trend itself, which explains why at 9 a.m. this morning it was “keep the wave going” and now it’s “KEEP THE WAVE GOing”. WOW! [update]10:30 a.m. “it’s keep the wave Going” [update] 11:08 a.m. it’s over! boo!
- Sachin – India’s cricket team lost to Australia, but Sachin (India) hit 175 and has made headlines across the world. Social Networkers are renaming India’s team “Sachin’s ten do littles” because without Sachin they would have had a measely 10 runs.
- #superjunior – music acts Superjunior and Girls Generation are teaming together to endorse the clothing line “SPAO”. But this is what’s got teens super excited – watch Superjunior take a bath.
- Yankees – they win the world series! And manager, Joe Girardi, helps a woman after she crashed her car into a wall on the Cross County Parkway in Eastchester.
- Rihanna – her interview with ABC news aired this morning on Good Morning America. It will air again tomorrow and on 20/20 Friday night. She admits regret at getting back together with Chris Brown after the incident. Diane Sawyer mentions this statistic in the interview – a woman will return on an average of seven times before leaving an abusive relationship.
- World Series – the Yankees won! They beat the Phillies. It’s 1950 all over again.
- Akon – there’s a weird rumor circulating on Twitter that Akon died, and a quick blog search found the rumor surfaced on Oct. 13th. I wonder how that got started. It’s false, but spreading rapidly not just over twitter but via text message. Another weird twitter trend that is surfacing is the comparison of Rihanna and Akon’s vocals. I don’t get it. I don’t get this whole thing with Akon honestly. The music video he’s featured in, Pitbull’s “Shut it Down,” was released on Nov. 2nd… it’s terrible. I’m not sure why popping your collar is still considered hip. Hanging onto remnants of the past if you ask me.
- Chris Brown – His reputation is ruined after beating up Rihanna earlier this year.
- #housecall – Michele Bachmann, Rep. Senator from Minnesota, starts a grassroots activist movement that is spreading like wildfire across social media. She is encouraging Republican activists to approach representatives on Capitol Hill and demand to know exactly where they stand on health care reform and how they will vote on the bill. The idea is that Republican representatives will be bullied by the activists and stay true to party lines. Exciting!
